The Science Behind THYNK

THYNK’s approach to optimizing focus and attention is to use the Focus>Forward Model (FFM) in conjunction with Brain to Computer Interface (BCI).

We start by recognizing each person’s current strengths and weaknesses in cognitive development followed by self-improvement through gradual development in pursuit towards attainable goals.

We accomplish this in the form of fun and simple video games while using modern technology to both observe and analyze the player’s brainwave patterns. The player plays through levels that sustain attention through fun and captivating gameplay while also building their cognitive skills.

93%

Of children with ADHD who started treatment completed treatment.

83%

Of children with ADHD who completed treatment experienced clinically meaningful symptom reductions of 25% or more.

50%

Of children with ADHD who completed treatment experienced clinically meaningful symptoms reduction of 40% or more.

Duration of effect on children with ADHD up to 6 months as long as followed.

Substantial Clinical Evidence Base

8 clinical studies with 337 children with ADHD. Of the 8 studies:

4

Are phase II randomized controlled studies.

5

Have been published in peer reviewed journals.

4

Of the studies have been independently funded and conducted.

The primary measure of treatment efficacy in these studies was the ADHD Rating Scale. The ADHD-RS is widely recognized by Key Opinion Leaders and regulatory authorities (FDA) as a gold standard primary measure of treatment efficacy for ADHD.

Children Have Fallen Behind

The sad fact of reality we must face is an increasing trend of children with stunted development in focus and attention. Children are falling behind in building these key cognitive skills and it is becoming increasingly clear to both their parents and teachers by the day.

The good news is that our approach can reverse these patterns of deficient attention and failing focus. Children who played our games in various observational studies showed demonstrable improvements both throughout their observation period and even in weeks beyond. Most notably their enhanced math and reading skills.

After all, attention is the cornerstone to cognitive well-being which can enable a person for academic and professional success.

Understanding the Importance of Attention

Since attention is the cornerstone to cognitive well-being, the best way to see the big picture of a child’s potential is if we look at it the way a foundation relates to a building.

When a building’s foundation is properly established, only then can the builder have assurance that the remainder can be built and ultimately deemed reliable. On the other hand, If the foundation is not established correctly, then any progress on a building will inevitably crumble. Such shortcomings usually occur due to their inability to sustain heavier weight even if progress was made early on.

Thus attention must be rightly harnessed as it is the very bedrock upon which higher order cognitive function and processes rest upon. It is therefore necessary to properly develop the fundamentals before advancing onto intermediate processes, higher order functioning, and achieving executive level reasoning.

What Happens to Development
When Attention is Removed

Remove the foundational cornerstone from this cognitive tower, and witness the entire structure crumble. Without adequate attentional development, the prospect of achieving language processing, visual-spatial reasoning, social and emotional competency, and executive functions becomes nearly unattainable.

The consequences are profound, highlighting the paramount importance of ensuring proper cognitive fundamentals in an individual. A well-established foundation allows for the gradual construction of subsequent cognitive abilities and skills over time and effort. Without this sturdy base to foster cognitive development, the remaining components become nothing more than a collection of disconnected building blocks.

Where THYNK Comes in

THYNK’s approach is to renovate these young wonders by recalibrating our youth’s cognitive cornerstone. By combining fun and compelling gameplay with real-time data metrics via our EEG headset, we have discovered that a person’s focus faculties can not only be renewed, but even refined for long-term gain.

Further consider the results from our numerous clinical studies to date and the truth becomes clear. A person’s ability to focus and hold attention once deemed unsolvable can be corrected for both short-term rehabilitation and sharpened for long-term excellence.

All of which has been proven through our first game for release: SKYLAR’S RUN.

The future of improving focus.

Skylar’s Run offers 15 playable levels designed to refine players' focus and attention. When paired with the EEG headset for the first time, Skylar’s Run syncs with the EEG to assess the player’s current attentional abilities. This is when the player is ready to start the adventure.

Once gameplay begins, the player immediately undergoes the process of progressively enhancing his or her own cognitive functions starting with sustained attention and distraction suppression while receiving encouragement through the use of inner voice monologues for pursuit of each level’s prize.

As players advance, Skylar’s Run dynamically adjusts its own difficulty based upon real-time brainwave activity transmitted by the EEG headset. When the game is too hard it will automatically reduce difficulty to avoid frustration. When it is too easy the difficulty is increased to avoid boredom. The game’s difficulty then becomes an ongoing feedback loop to sustain a fun experience until the player ultimately quits or succeeds.
